Stove Maintenance and Safety Tips

The best stove maintenance tip is keeping it clean. Keeping the stove top clean is not only important for looks, but safety as well.  Scrubbing the stove top can be a tedious task, so preventative maintenance is the best solution. Here are some useful stove maintenance tips:

Wipe all spills as soon as possible and if necessary, clean the stove top before using to prevent debris from being cooked onto the surface, making the job even more difficult

Keep electric and gas burners clean. Clean burners reflect heat better to work more efficiently.  Food and debris on or inside the burner can be a fire hazard.

Turn off electric burners two to three minutes before cooking is done and let remaining heat take care of the rest.

Use a pot or pan that fits the burner. The correct size pot or pan will distribute heat more efficiently, and less energy will be wasted heating the air.

Replace drip pans when they become permanently stained

Food debris or grease build up is a serious fire hazard.  When neglected, a dirty stove will become nearly impossible to clean and restore to new condition.  Some foods can damage the finish and lead to rust and corrosion.  Keeping it clean is the only way to maintain its looks.
